  1. Restoration (book by Patrick Q. Mason)

  2. Strauss: 8 Gedichte aus "Letzte Blätter" (I forced myself to start singing again and my voice teacher had me learn a few of these songs)

  3. PNW Road Trip Playlist (Spotify compilation, but it rocked our summer trip)

  4. Ted Lasso (TV Series, Apple TV) 

  5. Schitt’s Creek (TV Series, Netflix)

  6. Arrival (Movie, 2016)

  7. Dune (book by Frank Herbert - quick, skimming reread, and the 2021 movie)

Hi Rachel,
First of all, I accidentally read your something hopeful photograph instead before realizing it was this I needed to respond to (and wow, thank you for sharing your story, I’ll be praying for your daughter, you, and your family). I love that one of your most significant media is your PNW Road Trip Playlist and that you have this grouping of music pieces that you love! I’ve heard that Dune is incredible, and so I got the book for my wife this Christmas so we can read it together! We’re excited! I love The Chosen—it’s an absolutely beautiful piece of media. The way it conveys it is so genuine, touching, and joyful.

  Creating with Words: Line and Caret This activity asks students to remix their thinking and challenge preconceived notions. What I love about this activity (beyond the wordplay, which is my jam) is that students are creating pathways out of negativity for themselves. Medium Specificty

 I created a short quiz using the app Formative.com, which helps teachers create digital formative assessments The quiz itself is just for fun, but the process of exploring this app and creating the quiz was very interesting. The app is mainly for use in the classroom. Teachers can create different classrooms of specific students to use with multiple different formative assessments. What I loved about the app is the possibility for facilitating real-time feedback for teachers and the flexibility of what kind of material and responses are available. I'm not as tech-savvy as I'd like to be, and I know from observation that some students will participate in a digital format that will never raise their hand to participate in a classroom discussion. DMP Artist Statement

  I feel very privileged to have been part of this team and this assignment. We all shared and were so blessed to receive some very real and raw stories. There was a lot of processing throughout this process; that is to say, at times it really did feel like a group therapy experience, so we decided to just lean into that with the ending of the piece being set up in a sharing circle-esque space. It became clear early on in the idea generation stage, that we needed to find a way to honor the limbo stages of our lives: to recognize that they happen and we can learn from them even though they are difficult.  Initially I was tempted to put a more carefree spin on my stories. I've lived a bit more life than my classmates, and I try to avoid stepping over, disillusioning, or not taking them seriously.
